Privacy Policy

Marca (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a reading-habit app published by Adaba Studio. Marca is built to be private by default: it is a single-player app, and the books, reading sessions, quotes, notes, goals, and streaks you create live on your device. This policy explains the limited information the app handles and why.

The short version: We don’t require an account, and your reading library never leaves your device. We collect product analytics and masked screen recordings to make the app better, and an email address only if you choose to leave one with feedback. No advertising, no selling of data, no cross-app tracking.

1. Your reading data stays on your device

Everything you log in Marca — your library, reading sessions, page and time progress, quotes and notes, daily goals, reminders, streaks, and the name you optionally enter — is stored locally on your device using Apple’s on-device database (SwiftData). This information is not transmitted to us and we cannot access it. If you delete the app, this data is removed with it.

2. Analytics

To understand how the app is used and where to improve it, we collect anonymous product-analytics events (for example: completing onboarding, logging a reading session, finishing a book, or opening the upgrade screen) using PostHog.

Events are tied to a random, app-generated identifier — not your name, email, Apple ID, or device advertising identifier.
We do not use the IDFA and do not track you across other apps or websites.
The titles of the books you read, your quotes, and your notes are not sent in these analytics events.
Analytics data is processed on servers located in the European Union.

Screen recordings. To find screens that confuse people, the app may record how its own screens are used (taps and what is shown on screen), also through PostHog in the EU. Text fields, your name, and your quotes and notes are masked in these recordings, and nothing outside Marca is recorded.

In App Store terms this is “Usage Data” (Product Interaction and Other Usage Data). It is not used for tracking. It is linked to the random identifier above, and so to an email address if you choose to give us one (section 3).

3. Feedback you send us

If you use “Talk to the maker” or answer the in-app question, we receive the message you write and, only if you choose to enter it, your email address. We use them solely to understand the problem and to reply to you. Ask us at any time to delete them.

4. Book search

When you search for a book or scan its barcode, your search text or the ISBN is sent to public book catalogues to return titles, authors and covers: Google Books, Open Library (Internet Archive), and for some ISBNs the national libraries of France (BnF), Germany (DNB) or Spain (BNE). These requests are subject to those services’ own privacy practices. If you never search or scan, no such requests are made.

5. Read First (Screen Time)

If you turn on Read First, the apps you choose are locked using Apple’s Screen Time framework. Apple gives Marca only opaque tokens for them: we never learn which apps you picked or how you use them.

6. Subscriptions

Marca+ subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. All payment is handled by Apple — we never receive or store your payment details. We only learn whether an active Marca+ entitlement exists on your device, via Apple’s StoreKit framework.

7. Notifications

If you opt in to a daily reading reminder, the notification is scheduled locally on your device by iOS. We do not operate a server that sends you push notifications, and you can turn reminders off at any time in the app or in iOS Settings.

8. What we do not do

We do not sell or rent your data.
We do not show ads.
We do not build advertising profiles or track you across apps.
We do not require you to create an account or provide personal details.
We do not record anything outside the Marca app.

9. Children

Marca is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Your rights

Because your reading data is stored only on your device, you are in control of it: you can edit or delete entries in the app, and deleting the app removes the data entirely. For analytics, recordings, feedback, or any other privacy question or request (including under the GDPR or CCPA), contact us at the address below and we will help.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
